EWS Qualifier series expands to 25 countries
The Enduro World Series (EWS) is coming to a race near you as the list of official Qualifier events grows to 50 races spread across 25 countries and four continents.
The expanded lists of races sees the EWS moving into new territories including Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Poland, Switzerland, Colombia and Slovakia. There will also be a race in Lesotho, marking the first time the EWS will hold an event in Africa.
Taking place across four continents in 2018, the 50 events will allow the fastest riders a way to secure entry to their chosen EWS races. Enduro Mountain Bike Association (EMBA) members can gain points based on their results at these local races, with their best three results of the year totalled to generate their global qualifying ranking for the following year. More details about how the global ranking will be calculated will be released next week - along with some more big news...
The Qualifier events were introduced in 2016, with 40 events taking place in 18 countries, and so far roughly 300 athletes have gained direct entry to this season’s races as a result of the system.
Chris Ball, Managing Director of the Enduro World Series, said: “The Qualifier events have been a real success when they were introduced in 2016 and it’s great to see them expanding this season. Demand for EWS entries grows year on year and the Qualifier events are a great way for riders, especially amateurs, to have a clear and fair pathway into the World Series.
“We’ve been overwhelmed by the number of applications we’ve had to host Qualifiers this year, and it’s great to see so many countries involved - with 43 nationalities already entered in this season’s EWS races it’s amazing to see how truly global the sport has become. It’s great to offer so many riders the chance to participate in the series and we look forward to seeing who rises through the Qualifier ranks to qualify for the main EWS races in 2019.”

For the race jerseys, we will do another great design and we will also print the riders name on the back of all Jerseys ordered before the end of August. Sizing and fit for the jerseys is identical to our Bike Otago tops and also the Yeti 3/4 mens or women's Enduro tops (all our tops are modelled off the Yeti cut). If you are unsure, you can always come into try one in our shop, then change your size later (so long as its before end of August)
Entries for the 2017 Emersons 3 Peaks Enduro will open on 20th July 9pm. The event will be on the 2-3 December and limited to 200 entrants.
Entries open on 20th July at 9pm. A link will be posted HERE.
This years event will be pretty similar to last years format, with a day of practice on Friday, an epic tour around the outskirts of Dunedin and a dinner at the Emersons Brewery on Saturday, then a final crazy fun day of knarly trails on Signal Hill to finish things off on Sunday.
While we do not hesitate to use some pretty tough trails, the time limits during this race are relatively easy. So if you are a bit unsure if you have the skills to ride everything, don't worry... many riders walk sections of these tracks and you won't be alone! We encourage you to take the challenge and join the fun. At the end of the day, almost everyone that competes has an amazing time and loves the atmosphere... so do come give it a go!
Once again the event will be an official EWS qualifier event and I believe we are also the final event riders can gain points before selection ends, so we expect some fierce competition from the young and up and coming stars.
Entry Fees will remain unchanged from last year, which was $120 for adults and $100 for under 21 riders. We will have race tops again for $70 and for the first time we are offering rider t shirts for $35.
Once again we are supporting a super fun local three race Mountain Biking Otago Enduro series for those that need to hone there skills before race day. Check out details here.
We are changing our age categories to fit into the Enduro World Series format. Age groups are based on rider age on the 31 December of competition year.
Youth 15-17 (Under 15 riders allowed only if they ride together with an adult at all times)
Junior 18-20 (Last year was 18-21)
With EWS qualification points on offer, a super high quality field turned up to battle it out on Dunedin's toughest trails. With 2 new tracks, a rain storm, rock gardens, tree drops, craft beer and great food... it was a perfect weekend !
